So You Think You Can Dance Winner Joshua Allen Dies at 36

Joshua Allen, the talented dancer who won season four of So You Think You Can Dance in 2008, has died at the age of 36.

According to reports, Allen was struck and killed by a train on September 30 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, and officials have not released further details.

Allen rose to fame on the Fox reality dance competition, where he impressed audiences with his versatility and energy. He ultimately won the show’s fourth season, while fellow dancer and close friend Stephen “tWitch” Boss — who tragically died in 2022 — placed second. Speaking about their bond during the competition, Allen told Entertainment Weekly in 2008, “We were two of the closest people there. We were really happy for each other.”

Following his victory, Allen pursued opportunities in film and television. His credits include roles in Step Up 3D (2010), the 2011 remake of Footloose, and a guest appearance in American Horror Story.

Allen’s journey was not without challenges. In 2016, he faced legal troubles after an incident involving his ex-girlfriend, which resulted in jail time, probation, and counseling. Despite these setbacks, he remained a recognizable figure in the dance and entertainment world.

His final Instagram post in July was a tribute to actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who had recently passed away. Allen captioned the photo, “Fly high King,” — a message now bittersweet in light of his own passing.

Joshua Allen’s death marks another heartbreaking loss for the dance community, following the passing of Stephen “tWitch” Boss less than two years ago. Fans and fellow dancers continue to remember his talent, energy, and impact on the world of dance.
