Frozen 3: Release Date, Cast, Story Details and Everything We Know

Disney is bringing audiences back to the magical kingdom of Arendelle with Frozen 3, the highly anticipated third installment in the blockbuster animated franchise. The new movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Nov. 24, 2027, continuing the series’ tradition of launching around the Thanksgiving holiday.

The upcoming sequel will reunite several of the franchise’s most popular voice actors. Kristen Bell will return as Anna, while Idina Menzel will once again voice Elsa. Jonathan Groff is back as Kristoff, and Josh Gad will reprise his fan-favorite role as Olaf.

Frozen 3 Release Date

Frozen 3 will be released in theaters on Nov. 24, 2027. The date follows the release strategy of the first two movies, which also arrived around the Thanksgiving period.

The timing could help Disney attract families during one of the busiest moviegoing periods of the year. The first Frozen debuted in 2013, while Frozen 2 followed in 2019.

Although the new film is still more than a year away, excitement surrounding the sequel is already building among fans of the franchise.

Frozen 3 Cast

The main voice cast from the previous films is expected to return for the third movie.

Kristen Bell will reprise her role as Anna, while Idina Menzel will return as Elsa. Jonathan Groff will once again provide the voice of Kristoff, and Josh Gad will return as the lovable snowman Olaf.

The returning cast gives the new film a strong connection to the original movies. At the same time, Disney is expected to introduce new characters as the story expands beyond the events of the previous installments.

Frozen 3 Story Details

Disney is keeping much of the Frozen 3 plot under wraps. However, some major story details have already emerged.

One of the biggest developments is that Anna and Kristoff are set to get married. Their relationship has been an important part of the franchise, making their wedding a potentially significant moment in the new movie.

The sequel will also introduce a new villain, although Disney has not revealed many details about the character or their role in the story.

Meanwhile, Olaf will reportedly have a new romantic storyline. The beloved snowman is expected to have a love interest named Samantha, adding another comedic and emotional element to the adventure.

Frozen 3 Concept Art

Disney previously gave fans an early look at the movie through concept art revealed in August 2024. The artwork, created by artist Britney Lee, featured Elsa riding a white horse and Anna riding a brown stag.

The images sparked plenty of speculation about the direction of the story. However, Disney has yet to confirm exactly how the artwork connects to the finished movie.

Kristen Bell on Frozen 3

Kristen Bell previously confirmed that work on Frozen 3 was getting underway. In an October 2025 interview with Variety, the actress said production had started, although she had not yet heard the movie’s music at that point.

Bell also addressed reports claiming she would receive $60 million to return as Anna. She denied those reports but did not reveal her actual compensation.

The film’s music will once again come from husband-and-wife songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who created the songs for the first two movies.

Frozen 4 Is Also in Development

Disney’s plans for the franchise extend beyond the third movie. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger previously confirmed that Frozen 4 is already in development.

There are currently few details about the fourth installment. However, the confirmation suggests Disney sees the Frozen franchise as an important part of its long-term animation lineup.

The Success of the Frozen Franchise

The original Frozen became a worldwide phenomenon after its 2013 release. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen, the movie earned approximately $1.3 billion worldwide and won two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature.

Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee co-directed the original film, with Lee also serving as a writer. Both returned for Frozen 2, which became another massive global success, earning around $1.45 billion worldwide.

With two hugely successful films behind it, Frozen 3 has enormous expectations to meet. Its returning cast, new villain, expanded character stories and Thanksgiving 2027 release could make it one of Disney’s biggest animated releases of the year.

For now, fans will have to wait for Disney to reveal more about the story, characters and music. However, with Frozen 3 officially scheduled for Nov. 24, 2027, the next chapter of Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf’s adventure is firmly on the horizon.
