A Fresh Take on Henry VIII’s Six Wives
The story of Six: The Musical Live! puts Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr at the center of the narrative. Rather than presenting them simply as historical figures connected to Henry VIII, the musical allows each queen to tell her own story.
The result is an energetic combination of pop concert, comedy and historical storytelling. Each queen takes the microphone and explains why her experience deserves to be remembered beyond her relationship with Henry VIII.
Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, SIX became a major theatrical sensation after debuting at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017. Since then, the production has developed an international following and attracted audiences of more than 3.5 million people.

The Original West End Queens Return
One of the biggest attractions of Six: The Musical Live! is its cast. The film features the six original West End queens, allowing audiences to see the performers who helped establish the show’s celebrated stage identity.
Jarnéia Richard-Noel plays Catherine of Aragon, while Millie O’Connell portrays Anne Boleyn. Natalie Paris appears as Jane Seymour, Alexia McIntosh plays Anna of Cleves, Aimie Atkinson portrays Katherine Howard and Maiya Quansah-Breed plays Catherine Parr.
The queens are joined by the show’s energetic on-stage band, the Ladies in Waiting. Their live musical performances are expected to give the movie the atmosphere of a concert while preserving the theatrical energy of the original production.
A Cinematic Version of a Stage Phenomenon
Unlike a traditional movie musical filmed entirely on constructed sets, Six: The Musical Live! captures a live theatrical performance at London’s Vaudeville Theatre. The setting gives the film an authentic stage atmosphere while allowing the camera to bring audiences closer to the performers.
Liz Clare directs the film version, while the stage production was directed by Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage. Producers include Kenny Wax, Wendy and Andy Barnes, George Stiles and Dione Orrom.
The production also comes from Universal Pictures Content Group and Universal Pictures UK, adding major studio backing to the filmed event.
Why Six: The Musical Live! Could Be a Must-Watch
The combination of catchy music, comedy, history and female empowerment has helped SIX stand apart from conventional historical musicals. Its two-time Tony Award-winning reputation has also strengthened its position as a major contemporary theatre hit.
For fans who have already seen the stage production, the movie offers an opportunity to revisit the queens in a new format. Meanwhile, newcomers can discover the story through a filmed performance featuring the original West End cast.
With its August 14, 2026 release date, Six: The Musical Live! arrives as an exciting theatrical event for musical fans. Its powerful performances, memorable characters and modern approach to history could make this one of the year’s most entertaining filmed musicals.
