Broadway is about to welcome a familiar comedy star. Bowen Yang will officially make his Broadway acting debut in the Tony Award-winning comedy Oh, Mary! this September. The former Saturday Night Live cast member and Wicked film actor will step into the title role of Mary Todd Lincoln for a limited 12-week engagement at New York’s Lyceum Theatre.

Why Bowen Yang Initially Turned Down the Role
Yang revealed that he was first offered the role last year but decided against accepting it because of his commitment to what became his final season on Saturday Night Live.
He explained that he wanted enough time to prepare for a Broadway debut and did not feel he could fully dedicate himself to the production at that point.
After completing his SNL run, Yang revisited Oh, Mary! and found himself seeing the play from a different perspective. That experience convinced him that the timing was finally right.
